Objective To understand the relationship between HIV antibody screening positive test samples and confirmatory test results and to analyze HIV-1 positive and indefinite bands. Methods The S / CO values of samples positive for enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) were compared with those of western blotting (WB). Results A total of 129 positive samples were screened by confirmatory test. The positive samples were 115 positive, 10 uncertain and 4 negative. The positive coincidence rate of ELISA and WB was 89.15%. The percentages of positive gp160 and gp120 positive samples were 100.00%, gp41, p66 and p24 were all more than 90%, p55 was the least, only 55.65%; the uncertainty was 80.00% for gp160 and 40.00% for p24. Conclusion There is a false positive ELISA method for HIV antibody screening test. Positive screening samples must be confirmed by confirmatory test results, and follow-up of uncertain outcome test patients should be emphasized.
