1988年6月2日、3日道孚县东西乾宁地区相继发生了Ms=4.5级、Ms=5.0级和Ms=4.0级的强烈地震。地震使挪乌托至八美街一带的房屋遭受了不同程度的破坏和损坏。发生这次强烈地震的乾宁地区位于鲜水河断裂带的中部(图1中沿鲜水河断裂分布的长方形斜线区为震区范围)。是近年来国家地震局和四川省地震局重点监测和估计将发生强烈地震的地段之一。应该说,这是一次意料之中而震级略为偏低的地震。
