虹化山位于镇安县县城镇安河(也称县河)大转弯处.爆破任务是对该曲析河段裁弯取直,而后河道改由虹化山新开垭口处通过,以适应县城总体规划并有利于防洪和保障城区安全.虹化山垭口高度30～50m,新河道开挖底宽为55m,上下游方向山体平均厚度50余米,石方开挖量约为14万m~3.地质特征,岩性属千枚岩,表层风化剧烈.爆区内有几组断层和破碎带,构造较发育.
