Kaposi’s sarcoma is a progressive, multicentric disease, often invading the skin, lymph nodes and abdominal organs. In the literature, 35% of AIDS patients may develop Kaposi’s sarcoma. In order to clarify the histological basis for the X-ray findings of Kaposi’s sarcoma in the lungs of AIDS patients, the authors performed a retrospective review of the surgical pathology records of all AIDS patients found at the George Washington University School of Medicine from September 1981 to July 1985, Bacteria, fungi, mycobacteria, and viruses were stained and cultured by bronchial and thoracotomy biopsies, excluding patients with opportunistic infections on diagnostic biopsies. Nine cases of AIDS-free lung infection
