Feng Xiaogang’s “Night Banquet”, attracted by its large blockbusters and its association with “Hamlet,” actually possessed only a loose connection with this Shakespearean drama, but it is typical of Shakespeare’s borrowing of postmodern business cinema Case. The film’s use of Shakespeare’s cultural capital not only benefits its classics in the popular media but also helps producers win economic benefits. This article examines in what sense “night banquet” embodies the production of postmodern culture and how the film uses history and Shakespeare elements to make profits in business cinemas. The film’s collage of cultural symbols of different nature reflects the strategy of dealing with the history and classic texts of postmodern culture.
