中国科学技术大学近代力学系创建于一九五八年,当初称“力学和力学工程系”,一九六一年改称“近代力学系”。建系后,系主任即由我国著名科学家钱学森教授担任,直到一九七八年,才由吴仲华教授接替。“全院办校,所系结合”是中国科技大学的办校方针。建校以后,一大批中国科学院的著名学者兼任中国科大教授,其中在近代力学系执教的,就有严济慈、吴有训、吴文俊、郭永怀、林同骥、郑哲敏等我国老一辈的科学家。他们为中国科技大学近代力学系培养的
