Magnetic fluid seals provide the designer with a structure that has a seal surface line speed of at least 30 m / s and no wear on the seal surface for leaks. However, many potential users have doubts about the performance of such a sealed structure. This article describes the experience of developing and testing a seal with a diameter of 130 mm and a rotational speed of at least 67 Hertz. Development work has not yet been completed, but the pressure difference of 140KN / m2 can certainly be sealed, the power loss at the speed of 50 Hertz is 725 watts. The magnetic fluid is placed in a 0.1 mm gap between the rotor and the stator without mechanical contact at the sealing surface.
