The authors studied the effects of pulsed electromagnetic fields (PEMFs) on the EMG changes in the small turbinate muscles induced by patients with cardiopulmonary failure. The ulnar nerve was stimulated at the wrist with a 200 Hz ultra-large square wave current pulse (0.2 msec) obtained with a galvanostatic neurostimulator, and the patient was then exposed to PEMF (5 mT, 10 Hz, 20 min) to repeat the electromyography. The authors measured changes in the resulting compound muscle action potential (CMAP) and expressed it as a percentage of the decrease in amplitude between the initial and the post-CMAP EMG. The control group with 30 patients showed a 20% change. A 60% or greater change was observed in cardiorespiratory failure patients. After using PEMF, send
