插齿刀实质上就是一个具有切削角度的直齿变位齿轮。严格地说,插齿刀应看成是一个变位的斜齿齿轮。为了能切削齿,在插齿刀刃齿上磨有齿顶前角γ、齿顶后角τ_■及齿侧后角β_0刀,这样在各个截面上分度圆齿厚都不相等,距离前刃面愈远齿厚就愈小。因此各个截面上的齿形就成为变位系数ξ刀不同的变位齿轮,所以用齿轮正切规也能测量插齿刀齿顶高偏差,并且能够测量前后各个截面的齿顶高偏差。
