(一) 侗泰语族又称为侗台语族、黔台语族、侗傣语族和壮侗语族, 是汉藏语系的南支,是汉藏语系中内部共同点最多、关系最密切、并且有着共同历史渊源的一个语言族团。西方学者称该语族为 Kam—Tai languages。Kam 是侗族的自称,代表侗水语支;Tai 是泰族和傣族的自称,代表壮泰语支。侗泰语族,国际上习惯分为四个语支,即:
(1) The Dong-Tai languages, also known as the Kam-Tai languages, the Qian-Tai languages, the Dong-Dai languages and the Dong-Dong languages, are the southern branch of the Sino-Tibetan language family. They are the most common and closely related in the Sino-Tibetan language family A language group with a common historical origins. Western scholars call the language Kam-Tai languages. Kam is self-proclaimed by the Dong people and represents the language of the Dong-Shui language.
