莲,出淤泥而不染,濯清涟而不妖,中通外直,不蔓不枝,香远益清,亭亭净植,可远观而不可亵玩焉。北宋周敦颐的《爱莲说》可以说是把对莲的热爱与赞美发挥得淋漓尽致。赵先闻先生爱荷、画荷,对荷情有独钟,在当今画坛应是翘楚。赵先生画荷,横涂竖抹,不计工拙,然而不经意间,叶之抑扬,花之含放,梗之穿插,各得其妙。兼蹁跹婀娜之态,有凝铜铸铁之姿。用色或绿、或蓝、或红、或黄,间之以墨,虽五彩斑斓,然和谐而统一;用线或刚、或柔、或轻、或重,皆气息畅达,节奏明快,运笔随心。
