人的需求、情欲、超越性与创造力是推动人类社会发展的原动力,也是文学演变的动力源泉。文体与内容的产生、嬗变源于人类的欲求;欲求不仅是文学创作的原动力,也是文学传播与接受得以进行的原动力;文学的发展正是在个体、社会以及创作者、传播者与接受者的需求的一致与非一致的作用下呈现自身的纷纭万状与运行轨迹的。然而,人的情欲、超越本性一旦进入文学活动却有自身独特的转化路线和归宿,不是转向智力、科学或社会冒险,而是转向情感、幻想和美的创造,最终在想象中在创造的快感中在情感的满足中实现超越性的意欲。仅就中国古代而言,情欲与德理的冲突成为贯穿于精神生产领域的基始性矛盾运动,二者自身的相互消长以及对抗、调合状态,决定着社会的基本精神面貌和时代风气,也规定了文学的审美情趣与时尚,并形成了力与美、真与善、俗与雅等不同文学情状的交替运作
