章炳麟是我国近代史上重要的思想家和学者，亦为近代著名医论家。章氏博涉古今医籍，同时吸取近代西医知识，在《伤寒论》研究、中西医学汇通等多方面取得很大成就。如提出“广义伤寒说”、“六经六部说”、论伤寒传经之非、对历代伤寒注家的评价，”三焦－淋巴”学说、十二经开阔理论、六经实质新解、“废弃五行说”、湿温病说等等。章氏作为“近代国医革新的导师”．以他独到的见解和成就，确立了他在近代中国医学史的地位。
