Most clinical reports have demonstrated that copper-containing intrauterine devices are an effective and tolerable method of contraception for both unpaired and mothers. It has two major advantages over plastic contraceptive devices: it is easy to put in and it is easy to get less menstruation and less menstrual flow after having a vaginal discharge. The only inconvenience of using a copper-based device is that it needs to be replaced in about three years because the copper ions are gradually dissolved and the copper wire is broken, which is valid for only three years. In order to increase the contraceptive effectiveness of copper-containing contraceptive devices and to prolong the expiration date, many workers have made many improvements in their structure and type.
