In contrast to the Newtonian philosophical foundations of neoclassical economics, evolutionary economics is devoted to a “Kuhn-style” Darwin revolution, which provides a non-deterministic and open-system view of history for economics. Darwinism is not a particular theory in the field of biology, but rather a general theory of complex evolutionary systems, and Lamarckism embeds Darwinism. Biological metaphors and analogies have important enlightening value for the development of evolutionary economics, but it must be based on ontological thinking. It is precisely because of the ontological implications of evolution that evolutionary economics needs to move beyond the limitations of biological metaphors and analogies for deeper development.
