Based on the structural characteristics of stratified rock mass in coal measures strata, the characteristics and processes of overlying strata movement in longwall mining face of coal mine are analyzed in depth. Three basic modes of overlying stratified rock mass movement are proposed. And analyzed the type and control characteristics of the strata. This study is of guiding significance for the control of the surface subsidence and strata movement under longwall mining conditions
