The Philips mobile computing unit has made significant improvements to features that made its Windows CE-based Velo PDA stand out from the rest of the market, but the company will slightly increase the price of new products. The Velo 500 personal digital assistant expected to be delivered earlier in 1998 will be priced at $ 639, about $ 40 more than its predecessor, the Velo 1. Velo 1 came to market earlier this year, and Philips has integrated a voice recorder and modem into the product to extend the functionality of basic Windows-based PDAs.
