我国传统花木中,扬州琼花可算最负盛名而又极富传奇色彩。历来都把琼花视为不同凡响的仙葩,举世无双的奇花。而琼花也恰如仙葩那样芳影难觅,在较长一段时间内销声匿迹了。近些年来,扬州和昆山陆续发现了“琼花”。扬州和昆山的这种花木是否为真琼花?目前有人认为真琼花无疑;有人认为琼花早已不存于世,今日所见乃是与琼花相仿佛的聚八仙。对此,有必要作一番辨析探究。
