对甲砜苯甲醛(P-Methylsulfonylbenzaldehyde)是生产甲砜霉素(Thiampheniocl)的起始原料。在国外,也是生产β-内酰胺抗菌剂、荧光增白剂、二氢吡啶衍生物类抗心绞痛药物,及生产抗炎抗风湿类药物等方面的重要中间体。按起始原料或工艺条件的不同,对甲砜苯甲醛的合成方法图解如右: 目前工业生产对甲砜苯甲醛皆以甲苯为原料,与氯磺酸反应得到对甲苯磺酰氯和邻甲苯磺酰氯,后者用于生产糖精。对甲苯磺酰氯经亚硫酸钠处理和甲基化后得到对甲砜甲苯。早期氧化对甲砜甲苯为对甲砜苯甲醛采用铬酐氧化法,工艺繁杂,后处理困
P-Methylsulfonylbenzaldehyde is the starting material for the production of thiamphenicol.
