A survey to better understand and treat diabetes has been conducted by Novo Nordisk. The survey, called DAWN (Perceptions, Hopes and Needs for Diabetes), will explore the behavioral, social and psychological aspects of diabetes. The investigation takes place in two phases, with the participation of patients, health care professionals and policy-making authorities. In the first phase, a survey of seven countries, which started in the summer of 2000, is expected to be completed by the end of 2000 and will provide information on patient motivation and adherence barriers, which will be used as a reference for the design of the main survey. The top survey will be conducted in the first half of 2001 in Germany, the United Kingdom, India, Japan, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Australia, Scandinavia and the United States.
