电梯是高层建筑唯一安全,迅速,舒适的重要垂直运输工具。高层建筑的兴建促进了电梯工业的发展,而电梯工业的发展又给高层建筑的大量兴建和正常使用提供了条件。世界各国的高层建筑越来越多,其高度也越来越高,这就需要更多的高速电梯、超高速电梯。同时要求电梯有平滑的加减速度以及准确的停层精度。另一方面,由于目前世界上用于建筑方面的能耗占1/3左右,因此要求电梯节能。又因为电梯是乘人的,因而要求它能安全可靠的运行。
