旅居美国十二年 1996年,第5届中国侨联增补了一名副主席——刚刚从联合国副秘书长岗位上退下来的冀朝铸。对于他,许多中国人和外国人都耳熟能详。而广大归侨、侨眷和海外华侨、华人,对于侨界的这位新领导人,除了敬慕之外更增添了几分亲切:因为他是由一名爱国华侨成长为一名卓越的外交家和国际事务活动家的。 1938年底,冀朝铸跟随父母、大哥、四哥、小妹离开祖国远渡重洋,赴美国生活。小小年纪的他,刚刚踏上这片到处飘扬着星条旗的陌生土地时,感到一切都那么新奇甚至费解。至于父母为什么要带他们背井离乡,奔赴异国,他只知道是躲避战乱,别的就不明白了。其实,他的父亲冀贡泉这次赴美是受中共领导人的派遣,负有重要使命的。这里所说的“中共领导人”就是周恩来。
