传统中国画在悠远绵长、大浪淘沙的几千年文化历史长河中,呈现了工笔和写意两种倾向。前者工致精微,绮丽多彩;后者意笔资肆、水墨淋漓、直抒胸臆为大多文人墨客所钟爱,成为东方代表艺术的主要形式。但在第十一届美展中,中国画在初评时未能评出金奖,但考虑到全国美展没有国画金奖,难以向公众交代,于是乎“照顾”个金奖,中国画这一危险信号主要因为中国画的面貌正从整体走向工笔的主流。好的写意作品正在逐渐消失,而没有写意精神,中国画这朵奇葩如龙无神、虎无威、树木失根本,将从此开始委顿,无力与世界其他画种抗争,中国文化也必将遭受前所未有的损失。
