本钢5号高炉是2000m~3的大型高炉。1990年5月20日进行了第四代大修,1993年4月10日至5月13日进行了第四代第一次中修。投产后运行了近三年时间。在此期间,由于冷却水质、原料、操作、设备维护等方面因素的影响,致使高炉冷却设备、炉身下部钢甲损坏严重,严重威胁安全生产。于是在1996年4月2日至5月9日进行第四代第二次中修。根据逢修必改的原则,5号高炉第四代第二次中修主要技术改造内容如下。
