In the context of popular culture, the literary classics are no longer confined to the cultural capital of the elite, but become the cultural goods for mass consumption. In this paper, we take several films and TV series adapted from Canterbury Tales as an example to examine the diversified features of Western literary classics in the process of modern communication. The adaptation of film and television uses such methods as collage, expansion, conversion and quotation to transplant the narrative framework, characters, stories and classics in The Canterbury Tales, with the adaptation of the social context at that time, Different forms of film and television texts have eliminated the integrity and certainty of literary classics. However, this adaptation also shows the multiple meanings of the Canterbury Tales and gives them a wide range of intertextuality.
