p53 is the tumor suppressor gene discovered to date most closely related to tumorigenesis and development. Normal p53 protein negatively regulates cell proliferation by inducing cell cycle arrest and apoptosis, while p53 is abnormally expressed in tumor cells p53, especially the mutant p53 protein, can induce the body to produce cellular and humoral immune responses leading to immune tolerance or rejection of tumor cells. In this paper, the function of p53, the role of p53 in anti-tumor immune response and its application in the treatment of cancer are reviewed.
