盖斯凯尔夫人的最具代表性的工业小说《玛丽·巴顿》以宪章运动、经济危机以及当时错综复杂的社会思潮为背景,生动地反映19世纪工人阶级和资本家的矛盾冲突。本文从历史叙事的矛盾性出发,以雷蒙德·威廉斯的情感结构理论为基础,分析工业化进程中的异化现象,揭示工业社会的社会状况和世人的普遍心理,以及在文学作品中所体现出的工业化进程带来的不同影响面,探讨盖斯凯尔夫人如何向读者展示19世纪英国工人阶层生存状态和心灵以及揭示阶级的压迫性。
In the background of charter movement, economic crisis and then intricate social thoughts, Mrs. Gaskell’s most representative industrial novel Mary Barton vividly reflects the contradictions and conflicts between the working class and capitalists in the 19th century. Based on the contradiction of historical narration and the emotional structure theory of Raymond Williams, this article analyzes the alienation in the process of industrialization, reveals the social conditions of the industrial society and the general psychology of the world as well as in the literary works Out of the different aspects of the process of industrialization to explore how Ms. Gaskell shows readers the living conditions and mindset of the British working class in the 19th century and to reveal the class’s repression.
