大宁河小三峡段,奇峰高耸入云,峡谷深邃清幽。在险峻的悬崖陡壁上,可见神密的悬棺(题头照片)。悬棺葬是我国古代南方山区少数民族的一种葬俗,分布于四川、福建十三省区,川江两岸甚多。其高度一般在十几米至几十米,最高的距地面百米以上。悬棺的方法很多,有的是把棺材放在半露天的天然洞里;有的是在峭壁上凿孔,打入木桩,再在桩上放置棺材;还有的是人工凿洞,把棺材的一半插入洞内,一半悬空。古代当地风俗认为,悬棺葬是对死者的崇敬。悬棺越高,安放难度越大,也就越显示出葬礼之隆重,
