顾平尚魏晋的人生风尚,在于他认为明清文人心态太沉重,太谨小慎微而趋于保守,与当今社会难以合拍,而魏晋文人“非汤武而薄周孔”“越名教而任自然”超脱的精神寻求,超逸达观风流潇洒任情任性的人生态度,符合他的个性,在艺术创作上更能够使他“解衣盘礴”。了解他的人,都认可顾平有着王微之雪夜乘舟“乘兴而行,兴尽而返,何必见戴”的洒脱性情。然而,顾平虽然耽情于魏晋文人审美趣味的追索,但并不漠视对当下世界的关怀。在当今急剧变化的时代氛围下,画家不能失音,艺术不能缺席,一个有社会责任的画家必须对生活有所表示。如今都市文人的存在已经无法恢复到抚琴松下、放歌荒野的境界,但环境的制约不能成为艺术家的创作难以表达时代精神的借口,顾平的回答就是孜孜不倦追求的逍遥山水,在当下的主流艺术世界里走出了一条自身之路,成绩斐然。南来北往,顾平在弹奏,用他的笔墨、艺术技巧、洒脱的胸襟与多年的蒙养弹奏现代都市文人的情怀,弹奏当代的风流。
