Light vehicles (LDVs) account for 95% of current natural gas vehicles, but trucks and buses are growing at a faster rate and are expected to account for 9% of the total by 2020. In a recent survey, Navigant Research predicts that the global number of natural gas vehicles will reach 34.9 million by 2020. The main driver of this growth is the combination of a variety of low-cost natural gas with the continuously higher gasoline and diesel prices in many countries. Light vehicles (LDVs) account for 95% of current natural gas vehicles, but trucks and buses are growing at a faster rate and are expected to account for 9% of the total by 2020.
