王伊洛先生发表在《编辑学刊》1992年第1期上的《试析职业编辑与古典编辑概念》(以下简称王文)我以为有欠全面。王文提出了职业编辑与古典编辑两个概念,认为:“近现代的编辑工作,是一种以传播为目的的社会性行业,从事这一活动的编辑家们把传播真实、新鲜、有用、有趣的信息作为自己毕生从事的职业,并以此为谋生的手段。这种编辑,更确切地说应该称呼为——职业编辑。”而古代编辑活动“与职业编辑有着极大区别”。文章概括了古代编辑活动的四个特点:“第一,古代编辑活动往往是个人或数人业余半业余的志趣活动。”“未能形成一种独立的社会性行业。从事编辑活动的学者们并不以此谋利,也不把这种类型的编辑活动作为维持生计的手段。”中国古代编辑史上
