苏丹草原产非洲北部苏丹。是禾本科高梁属一年生牧草。我省于1977年从江苏省农学院引进,现已推广普及到全省各地,深受各地群众欢迎。它的显著优点是:适应性强;能耐干旱和夏季高温,可在丘陵山区水源较缺乏的地区种植;易种易管,再生力强,一年可青割3～4次;茎叶品质比玉米和高梁柔软,适口性好,为各种家畜和鱼所喜吃;能用于改造草山草坡,弥补充实淡季饲料的不足。
