With the improvement in the Asian countries’ exports to the United States and Japan in the fourth quarter of last year, and the increasing global demand for electronic products and computer chips, economists are more optimistic about the outlook for 2006 for major economies outside Asia except in Japan. Although growth in some economies may be slower than last year, economists in both Taiwan and Malaysia currently forecast higher growth rates for the rest of Asia than they did at the October survey last year. The improvement in economic growth may offset the rise in oil prices and the possibility that the U.S. dollar may weaken the Asian economy
