February 2005 A gold heap leaching roundtable was held at the Knight Piesold Mining Company in Elko, Nevada, USA. This paper gives a brief introduction to the selection and layout of heap leaching facilities, the important role of geotechnical site investigation, geotechnical design, liner selection, drainage, solution transport and collection, balance between solution pool and storm pool, the choice of contractor, The role of quality certification in construction work; permits and environmental issues; piling up, heap leaching cycle and layer thickness and problems.
