Objective To find early monitoring indicators of lung cancer in coke oven workers exposed to coke oven fumes. Methods Dot blot was used to detect the levels of ras gene product p21 protein and HSP27 and HSP70 in 56 coke oven workers and 32 control groups. Results The p21 protein level in coke oven workers’ serum was significantly higher than that in the control group (P < 0-01), and the positive rate was 35-7 %, which was significantly higher than that of the control group (12-5 %, P <0-05); The analysis shows that there is a significant correlation between the coke oven worker’s p21 level and the worker’s length of service (P<0-001). At the same time, the HSP27 level in coke oven workers was also significantly higher than that in the control group (P<0-05). There was no significant difference in HSP70 level between the two groups. Conclusion It is speculated that the changes of serum levels of p21 protein and HSP27 are important for the early monitoring of lung cancer in coke oven workers.
