On October 12, 1992, a magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck Egypt. There were more than 550 deaths and more than 6,000 wounded in the country. The property lost about 1billion Egyptian pounds (equivalent to 800 million U.S. dollars). In the midst of the earthquake, people began to think about causing such a big loss.
