Objective: To investigate the clinical value of visual analogue scale (VAS) combined with serum C-reactive protein in assessing the prognosis of tonsillar abscess. Methods: Totally 31 patients with tonsillar abscess admitted in our hospital from January 2016 to February 2016 were enrolled in this study. All patients underwent peritoneal abscess aspiration and antibiotics anti-infective treatment. After the first, third, fifth day Patients underwent VAS score and peripheral blood C-reactive protein. Results: Throat pain disappeared in 31 patients after 5 days. The VAS scores of the 25 cases were 8.20 ± 1.25,4.42 ± 1.05 and 1.41 ± 0.55 on the 1st, 3rd and 5th day, respectively, with significant difference (P <0.05). The levels of C-reactive protein in peripheral blood were (62.41 ± 8.61), (20.46 ± 5.32) and (5.41 ± 1.95) mg / L respectively, with statistical significance (P <0.05). The VAS scores of the 6 cases on the 1st and 3rd day after admission were respectively 8.41 ± 1.44 and 7.37 ± 1.15, with no significant difference (P> 0.05). The levels of C-reactive protein in peripheral blood were (59.85 ± 8.35) and (45.33 ± 7.46) mg / L, respectively, with no significant difference (P> 0.05). On the 5th day after admission, the VAS score was 1.55 ± 0.65 and the peripheral blood C-reactive protein was 10.24 ± 2.57 mg / L, with a statistically significant difference as compared with the first day (P <0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The VAS score can subjectively assess the prognosis of tonsil abscess on the basis of symptoms. C-reactive protein can objectively evaluate the prognosis of peritonsillar abscess biochemically. The VAS score combined with C-reactive protein has a better prognosis for the peritonsillar abscess Accurate assessment of value.
