任何文化传统的历史演变进程,都是传承与变异二重机制相互作用的结果。没有传承,就割断了历史;没有变异,就丧失了新生。传承,是文化传统的精髓的延续,是一种文化在多种文化的撞击中得以自立的根基。变异,是文化传统的风貌的革新,是一种文化在多元文化的竞争中得以生存的保障。而无论是传承还是变异,在实质上都是一种扬弃,以现代意识为消化系统的扬弃。只不过传承是偏重于继承性的扬弃,而变异则着力于批判性的扬弃。作为一种文化传统,或者说,作为中国文化传统的一个组成部分,我认为,戏曲艺术的真正出路就是艺术精神的传承和文化精神的变异。何以见得?试详言之。
