A real-time model of a virtual shift test rig is introduced for the virtual design of a manual shift. The test rig enables engineers to instantly experience the impact of design changes on the comfort of a shift. The real-time model is modeled in detail by a complete powertrain and a transmission incorporating an external shifter linkage mechanism. The impact of changes in the main design parameters on comfort is analyzed in a real-time simulation environment.
