“Laconia” was made in Amsterdam in 1930 for the “Netherlands-Netherland” shipping company, formerly known as “John Van Aubenanne Barnett”. It was converted twice in 1951 and 1959, and was purchased by the Greek shipping company in 1962 and converted into a first-class shipping liner named “Laconia.” One night on December 9, 1963, “Laconia” sailed from Southampton, England. The boat crew, made up of Greeks, British, Italians, Germans and Cypriots and many other nationalities, mostly British travelers, including a considerable number of vacation-traveling seniors and multi-ethnic crew members, have been linked language disability.
