2013年5月9日,银川市政府秘书长率银川市市直学校校长组成的15人教育考察团队来到武穴市梅川镇小学(以下简称“梅川镇小”)考察。在校园里,在操场上,在音乐、书法、美术教室里,考察团成员不时发出赞叹:“梅川镇小的素质教育花开叶茂,真不愧是湖北农村小学教育的典范!”梅川是千年古镇,梅川镇小是一所百年老校。作为这所历史底蕴深厚的老学校的新校长,胡运新的观点非常明确:坚守就是特色。他说:“坚守就是守住学校的风骨,不随波逐流;就是守住教育的规律,不为所欲为;就是守住人的核心地位,不舍本逐末。”
