Slavery was abolished after the American Civil War, but discrimination against colored people rooted in white hearts did not disappear. Blacks are still marginalized in American society. Among Morrison’s writings, the black pursuit of self-identity is one of the eternal themes. Taking the real life of African Americans as her theme, she explores the ways blacks gain self-identification and self-realization in American society. Song of Solomon is a story about the growth history of a black man’s baby boy and the growth of a baby boy. It is a model for Morrison to explore ways for blacks to realize their own salvation.
