谷子是我省的主要粮食作物之一,全省谷子播种面积约二百万亩。近年来,谷子播种面积有所缩小,产量也逐渐下降,其中重要原因是谷子品种混杂退化,病害严重所致。因此要改变谷子的低产面貌,首先得从选育优良品种着手。1974年我们利用抗旱、耐瘠适应性强的农家品种会宁等身齐作母本和粒大、穗紧、抗倒、生长势强的外引材料系72—3作父本,通过有性杂交,选育出适应我省中部及河西地区种植的粮草双高产的谷子新品系741—1。
