Aim: The immune system involves many etiologies and pathologies of inflammation. Many of the ingredients in medicinal plants are thought to have a nonspecific immunomodulatory effect. Based on this and based on the role of interleukin 6 in inflammation and pain production, the present study investigated the effects of extracts of Achilleasantolina on Freund’s adjuvant-induced inflammation in rats. Methods: Methanol extracts and defatted extracts of aerial parts of Santolina were extracted for this study. The degree of hyperalgesia and degree of paw swelling after different days of Freund’s adjuvant-induced inflammatory injury were measured by bolometer and organ filling instrument, respectively, and the level of paw swelling was measured by rat interleukin-linked enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kit Interleukin 6 levels. RESULTS: Methanol extract of Santolina schisandra decreased the degree of paw edema and decreased the degree of hyperalgesia and the serum interleukin-6 level in a dose-response manner. Acacia achillea methanol extract at a dose of 200 mg / kg had significant antihyperalgesic and anti-inflammatory effects during pretreatment and short-term treatment, with no significant difference between the 400 and 200 mg / kg doses. The inflammatory response of rats induced by Freund’s adjuvant showed no significant therapeutic effect (P> 0.05) at all stages of the experiment. During the short-term treatment, the 200 mg / kg extract of Santlienta scoparia was superior to indomethacin (P <0.01, P <0.01) in reducing inflammatory pain and serum IL-6 level in inflamed rats P <0.01, P <0.05). Conclusion: Pretreatment and short-term administration of methanol extracts of Santolina yam have obvious anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects.
