Objective To investigate the correlation and clinical significance of serum immunosuppressive acidic protein (IAP) and peripheral blood CD4 + CD25 + T cells in patients with pancreatic cancer. Methods Serum levels of IAP and CD4 + CD25 + T cells in 55 patients with pancreatic cancer were detected by ELISA and flow cytometry, respectively. The correlations were analyzed and compared with benign pancreatic disease group and healthy control group. Results The expression of CD4 + CD25 + T cells and serum IAP in peripheral blood of patients with pancreatic cancer was significantly higher than that of benign disease group and control group (P <0.05), and significantly correlated with the size, distant metastasis and clinical stage (P <0.05). There was a positive correlation between the number of CD4 + CD25 + T cells in peripheral blood and the level of serum IAP in patients with pancreatic cancer. Conclusions The levels of CD4 + CD25 + T cells and serum IAP in pancreatic cancer patients are related to the invasion and metastasis of tumor and the progression of the disease. The increase of CD4 + CD25 + T cells in peripheral blood of patients with pancreatic cancer may induce the increase of IAP expression.
