菊花为我国十大名花之一和传统的药用植物。目前我国栽培的观赏菊花均为通过杂交选育的栽培品种。同时,切花菊和盆菊在欧洲栽培也十分普遍,英国、荷兰、德国、西班牙、匈牙利等国都有一定规模的生产。在亚洲,韩国、马来西亚、日本等国栽培菊花的面积均不小。另外,美国和以色列在菊花育种方面成绩突出,培育出不少良种。如今,菊花已成为我国家庭栽培最普遍的花卉之一,也是国际花卉市场销售量最大的花卉品种之一。
