目前,把图书馆社会学作为社会学理论研究和应用研究的一个独立领域,条件日渐成熟。我国图书馆事业的发展进程及其对社会的巨大影响,图书馆和图书馆员在这一发展进程中不断增强的社会作用,迫切需要从图书馆社会学的角度予以研究和阐释.同时,我国社会学最近几年在理论、方法上所取得的成绩和达到的水平,为图书馆社会学的独立研究提供了极大的可能性。因此,争取在不太长的时间内建立起具有自身特色的图书馆社会学,既是客观需要,也有客观可能。
