The pathogenesis of anemia in malaria patients is not clear. Animal model studies have shown that reactive oxygen mediators (ROIs) are involved in the destruction of malaria parasites and malaria pathology. To investigate the role of ROI in human malaria, the authors measured the ROI level of 100 severe malaria cases of Plasmodium falciparum in the Lamborghini Albert Schweitzer hospital in Gabon.
