Background: Most blood donors postponing blood donation are short-term and temporary. The short-term, temporary postponement (STTD) of blood donations has a significant impact on donor return rates and subsequent blood supply. Study Design and Methods: In the first 3 months of 1993, the age, sex, and blood donation times were compared using computer-based STTDs and blood donors. Evaluate the computer records for the next 4.25 years (4/93 to 6/97) to determine the donor’s return rate and subsequent blood supply. Results: The most common causes of STTD were low hemoglobin (46%), cold and/or sore throat (19%), and elevated body temperature (10%).
