The origin of the country name “Argentina” (Argentina) is derived from the Latin Argentum, which is the meaning of Spanish La Plata are “silver.” Legend has it that a long time ago, there was a “white kingdom” in the La Plata River basin in Argentina and an unsurpassed “Silver Mountain” in the country. The expedition led by Spanish descendants De Soleil landed on the river in 1516. They found it cool and sweet, and gave it the name “sweet sea.” In 1527, Capotech, an explorer who served the Spanish royal family, led a consortium to the estuary of the river. He saw many Indian natives wearing silver ornaments, in order to find the legendary “Silver Mountain”, then named the river La Plata, which means “the Milky Way.”
